We recently hosted another virtual Gawie le Roux Institute of Law Awards Ceremony to celebrate the success of those of you who passed an LPC exam in the second semester of 2023.

Ahmed Seedat graduated from the University of Witwatersrand with a double major in both legal and political studies in 2019 and further completed his specialised LLB degree in 2021. During the tenure of his studies, Ahmed garnered numerous accolades, including multiple Dean's List awards and a distinguished first-class award certification. In 2023, Ahmed became a candidate attorney at Tuckers Attorneys (Boksburg branch) to complete his practical vocational training. In the same year and in the pursuit of his attorneys' admission examinations, Ahmed obtained one of the highest mean average results in the country after having written papers 1, 2, and 4. Ahmed specialises in civil litigation, criminal law, and commercial law.

After completing her BCom and LLB at Rhodes University, Anastasia went on to do her articles at Ahmen & Hamman Attorneys before moving on to work in litigation, court and estate work with Luitingh & Associates. She then joined Bannister Trust in 2022. Anastasia is a managing director at Bannister Trust and is responsible for overseeing the administration, management and execution of the firm's trust accounts as well as its deceased estates department. The passing of her notarial practice exam is a great step forward in providing comprehensive estate planning and administration to her clients.

Christiaan Diedericks, graduated with an LLB from the University of the Free State. During his time as a student, he received various awards for academic excellence including, the LexisNexis prize for best student in criminal procedure, the Hill, Mchardy and Herbst bursary for general academic excellence, and various nominations to the annual Dean's List for the faculty of law. After completing his LLB degree, he pursued an LLM in international law at the University of Witwatersrand. He received his LLM degree (cum laude). Subsequently, he served articles and worked at one of South Africa's premier boutique law firms in Johannesburg and was admitted as an attorney in the High Court of the Republic of South Africa.

Claire Erasmus holds a bachelor's and master's degree in architecture from Nelson Mandela University. Her academic pursuits instilled in her a keen eye for detail, creative problem-solving skills, and a commitment to excellence. Driven by her desire to expand her horizons and delve deeper into the legal aspects of property, Claire completed her LLB at the University of Stellenbosch. Claire completed her articles at a firm specialising in personal injury matters and was admitted as an attorney in 2022. Wanting to combine her skillset in both architecture and law, Claire decided to study for the conveyancing exam in early 2023. With the help of the Gawie le Roux Institute of Law, Claire was admitted as a conveyancer in 2023. After this success, Claire decided to write the notarial practice exam at the end of 2023, which she passed and is poised to be admitted as a notary this year. Claire also attended the practical conveyancing for attorneys course through the GLR Institute which fast-tracked her practical experience. Claire is currently in the process of opening up her own law firm based in Stellenbosch, which will offer both conveyancing and notarial services.

"My name is Denise Louw, and I am currently a candidate attorney at Horn Attorneys. I hold a BCom Law and a LLB degree. During my studies, I faced multiple difficulties. My board exams were no different as shortly before the exams we had a family emergency which left me with very little time to prepare. The Gawie le Roux notes and recordings were my lifeline. Dineo Garekoe is an admitted attorney and conveyancer with the right of appearance in the High Court. She is the co-founder and director of Garekoe and Twala Attorneys (G & T Attorneys) a proud, 100% black, female-owned boutique law firm with offices in Fourways, Pretoria, Johannesburg, and Soweto. Dineo began her career at a small boutique law firm which specialised in general litigation. However, since taking the Gawie le Roux course in conveyancing and being admitted as a conveyancer, Dineo has grown to love this specialised field of law. Learning this new skill and with this new experience, Dineo is growing the conveyancing department at G & T Attorneys. Dineo's vision has always been to have a broad understanding of what she has already acquired in life and to acquire even more without limits.

Farhana practices for her own account under the name and style of Farhana Ismail Suliman Attorneys. She served her articles with Lombard-Badenhorst Inc. for a period of one year, whereafter she was duly admitted as an attorney of the High Court in 2014. She has experience in litigation, family law, debt collection, and including but not limited to criminal law. She decided to do the Gawie le Roux course in conveyancing and to write the exam to expand her practice and knowledge. Her aims and aspirations are to encourage young and impoverished females to aspire and achieve powerful futures within the legal profession.

"I am a driven, hardworking, and tenacious woman currently in the employ of AJ Stone Attorneys. I completed my two years of articles and passed two board examinations with the invaluable courses and notes offered by the Gawie le Roux Institute of Law. I matriculated from Alberton High School with two distinctions. My academic journey began in 2019 when I completed a bachelor of arts degree majoring in law and politics at the University of the Witwatersrand. I subsequently also completed my LLB degree at the same University and graduated in 2022. I am the product of a strong woman who endured and refused to let her hurdles hamper her path to success and when I stood on stage with my graduation ceremonies, I couldn't help but be overcome with emotion, because I knew how hard I had to fight to get to that point. Luluma Damba completed his LLB at the University of Johannesburg in 2022 and is currently a second-year candidate attorney at Motshabi and Associates Inc. While Lulama is exposed to various areas of the law, he enjoys labour law and dispute resolution the most. He is very excited to gain more experience and become well-versed in the legal profession; and with the Gawie le Roux Institute of Law's guidance he has no doubt he will be.

Megan completed a BCom Law at Varsity College and thereafter completed her LLB while working at Barry, Botha and Breytenbach Attorneys. Megan passed all four board exams on her first attempt, "which would not have been possible without the help of the Gawie le Roux notes". Megan was admitted as an attorney on 23 February 2024 and is a professional assistant in the conveyancing department at Barry, Botha and Breytenbach. Megan is currently studying for her conveyancing exam in September which she is hoping to pass on her first try using Gawie le Roux's conveyancing notes.

"I know one day; I am going to be a fantastic lawyer just as I am a mom! I graduated in 2014 from NWU. I then enrolled for a 2-year master's degree. I met my husband at varsity, we got married in December 2016. In 2018 we found out the best news, we were pregnant! Obviously, articles had to wait. Then I heard about Gawie's Institute. What a game-changer! The work is summed up perfectly, it saved me days of preparation, and I still remember all the dad jokes from the lecturers. I could watch it on my own time, I sat early mornings, and late nights just grafting, praying it would be enough. It was, I passed my first two exams! After my second baby was born, I sat with my little baby at night on my lap sleeping while studying, caffeine after and during work was my go-to. I found out last September I passed all my exams! "I am a passionate and motivated young individual currently residing in the West Rand, Gauteng. Prior to my professional career, I obtained my BCom Law degree and diploma in Spanish for beginners from the North-West University of Potchefstroom whereafter I graduated with my LLB from the University of South Africa. I passed all four papers of the attorneys' admission exams in 2023. On 15 September 2023, the Gawie Le Roux Institute of Law held a virtual award ceremony for the attorneys' admission exams written in March 2023. At the above-mentioned Gawie le Roux awards ceremony, I was truly blessed to take 3rd place in paper 2 (wills and estates) and to take 3rd place in paper 4 (bookkeeping). I am currently studying for the conveyancing exam and thereafter I am eager to conquer the notary exam. I am profoundly grateful that after a long journey to admittance as an attorney in the High Court, it is finally on the horizon."

Shanice May is a second-year candidate attorney in the employ of Lawtons Africa Incorporated. She holds a BCom Law (cum laude) degree from the North-West University as well as an LLB degree, which she obtained from the University of South Africa. As a candidate attorney, she has gained valuable experience in litigation and employment law practice areas and is excited for what the future holds; the possibilities within the legal fraternity are endless and rewarding. Shanice lives by the maxim that one should strive for excellence in everything that you do, whether trivial or significant.

"From graduating with an LLB degree at Stellenbosch University, I started as a candidate attorney at Fairbridges Wertheim Becker in 2022, and almost immediately after walking through the firm's doors, I had the goal of working in their conveyancing department and ultimately becoming a conveyancer. This motivated me to take on all four of the attorneys' admission exams and the conveyancing exam in 2023, all of which I passed on my first attempt. While the volume of preparation and attention to detail required for the conveyancing examination is daunting, to say the least, I thoroughly enjoyed studying for it, as I knew I was learning skills that would assist me in my day-to-day tasks. To this day, I still refer to tips from the Gawie le Roux notes and online lectures to guide me. I am currently awaiting admission as an attorney and conveyancer and, right now, my biggest goal is to gain enough knowledge and experience through as many tasks and duties as possible to be able to be a valuable addition to our conveyancing department."

"I obtained the second highest mark for the notarial examination in the April 2023 sitting, being 86%. In 2017, I completed my BCom Law degree at the NWU and in 2019, I completed my LLB degree at the same institution. In April 2022 I was admitted as an attorney and am currently practising as such at Bouwer & Olivier Inc, where I also completed my articles. I decided to embark on the journey of becoming a notary public as the firm did not have one in employ, and I recognised an opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills. I have not once looked back on this decision. During the course, Erinda made the following statement: 'A notary is not something that you do, it is who you are'. I have found this to be nothing but the truth, and I love it! Make sure you truly understand the content, attend the notarial exam workshop, ask those questions you are unsure about, and practice, practice, practice your drafting! Next up - well nothing but the course in conveyancing, of course!"

"I obtained my BCom LLB degree at the North-West University Potchefstroom Campus in 2021 (cum laude). I completed my practical vocational training contract at Rina Rheeders Attorneys Inc. in Pretoria. During this 2-year period, I passed my attorneys' admission exams as well as my conveyancing exam on the first attempt. I will be practising as an attorney and conveyancer at Pretorius & Bosman Attorneys in Vrede, Free State once admitted."
