We recently hosted our very first virtual Gawie le Roux Institute of Law Awards Ceremony to celebrate the success of those of you who wrote and crushed an LPC exam in 2021.
Upskilling is the name of the game and winners walked away with Gawie le Roux vouchers that can be spent on any of our courses, workshops, and webinars for the next 2 years.
Missed the ceremony? Here are some of our alumni and top achievers around the country who entered.
Simonè Denner
"After earning my BCom Law Degree, Cum Laude from the University of Pretoria, I entered the University of South Africa and obtained my Bachelors of Law Degree. I have been in the employ of Marianne Pretorius Attorney since 2017 and have since been able to explore my passion for law and making a difference.
I was registered as a candidate legal practitioner after obtaining my Bachelors of Law Degree in 2019 and endeavoured to write the admission exams in 2021. I registered for all four of the examinations, and with the help of Gawie Le Roux’s Institute of Law, I was able to pass all four of the exams with flying colours, first attempt. I was admitted as an attorney of the High Court in November 2021. I endeavour next to be admitted as a notary public and conveyancer, and I am confident that with help of Gawie Le Roux’s webinars, study material and other helpful tools, that I will be able to achieve this milestone."
Beatrice de Wet
"Beatie completed her 5-year BAccLLB degree at the University of Stellenbosch in 2017. In 2019 she commenced her practical vocational training at a law firm in Worcester and completed the attorneys’ admission examinations. She then wrote and passed the notarial practice examination and was admitted as a legal practitioner (attorney) and notary in June 2021. In September 2021, she passed the Conveyancing examination but decided to change direction and start a career as a corporate legal advisor. She is currently working as the Legal and Compliance Manager in the Gravaton Investments Group.
Beatie is married and also a mother to their 2-year-old son.
Her aim for her career is to ensure that women hold more leadership positions in companies by enhancing career advancement opportunities for women, furthering mentorship relationships between women and breaking the stigma that women should always 'choose family over their careers'."
Thandi January
Thandi January is a director at January Attorneys Inc based in Bryanston. Their areas of expertise include Property Law, Conveyancing, Notarial Services, and Wills, Trusts, and Estates, among others. "A huge thank you to the GLR Institute for helping me change my life, to qualify both as a Conveyancer and Notary within one year. This is my dream deferred 26 years ago when I was admitted as an Attorney. I always wanted to be a Notary and Conveyancer but life happened. I am happy to say: 'It’s never too late to accomplish what you have set your mind to achieve.'

Avir Maharaj
"Possessing a desire for knowledge has consequently resulted in me striving to be the best that I can possibly be in all aspects of my life. In this pursuit, I completed various Gawie le Roux courses to broaden my perspective and proficiency. I am now the director of my very own law firm, that being Avir Maharaj Incorporated based in the Umhlanga Arch where I specialise in criminal litigation."
Lynda Pillay
"Lynda is the co-founder of Pillay Batt Attorneys and was admitted as an attorney of the High Court in 2018 and as a Notary in 2021. She has experience in most areas of litigation including contract, commercial, labour, matrimonial, criminal law as well as restraints of trade, and is now excited about being able to register various notarial deeds, including ante-nuptial contracts for clients.
Prior to being admitted as an attorney, Lynda spent much of her career in the banking sector developing a sound knowledge of risk and brings with her a diverse skill set and knowledge drawn from experience both in and out of the financial sector.
Lynda has a keen interest in property law and ownership and is a firm believer in an integrated and holistic approach to legal matters.
Outside of the law, Lynda enjoys travelling, astrology, running, hiking and animals."
Jane Rushton
"I am an attorney at De Klerk & Van Gend Inc’s Claremont office where I specialise in the administration of deceased estates. I decided to do the Gawie Le Roux Conveyancing Course and to write the conveyancing exam so that I could expand my practice generally and, in particular, to attend to the immovable property transfers in the estates that I administer."
Elisabeth van Wyk
"Elisabeth van Wyk works in the firm of Van Wyk and Associates in Cape Town, where she specialises in Administrative and Constitutional Law, and most recently public interest litigation. She has owned Early Childhood Development centres since 2006, and is involved with the intersection between her lived experience operating early childhood development centres, and the legal challenges with which she engages professionally. Prior to 2006, she worked as a management consultant at KPMG in New York, specialising in inclusivity and diversity projects, including access to ECD, for Fortune 500 corporations in the United States. She is the founder of the non-profit company, Lawyers for ECD; she collaborates with the Social Justice and Advocacy Unit at the Centre for Early Childhood Development and is a supporter of the Real Reform for ECD Campaign. Elisabeth holds Bachelor of Arts and Law degrees from the University of Cape Town and a Masters degree in Administrative Law from the University of Cape Town (with the University of Leiden).
