A professional receiving an award in recognition of her achievements

Every year, thousands of legal practitioners suit up to write the Legal Practice Council's (LPC) competency-based exam, conveyancing exam, or notarial practice exam.  Some have even achieved incredible milestones — writing and passing all these exams in one year.

About the awards ceremony

To reward alumni for their hard work in preparing for these challenging exams, the Gawie le Roux Institute of Law hosts a virtual awards ceremony twice a year.  These ceremonies aim to celebrate the success of our alumni and provide top achievers with an opportunity to upskill even further.

Ceremonies take place in March and September every year.  Invitations are sent via email to eligible Gawie le Roux alumni in advance and the events are also advertised on Facebook and LinkedIn.

Eligibility requirements

  • Only Gawie le Roux alumni are eligible to enter.
  • Alumni should have purchased the latest course notes for preparation (for example, if you wrote an exam during the first session of 2024, you cannot enter the ceremony if you used notes from 2019 to study).
  • Only students who have passed an LPC exam can enter.  You will be required to complete an online form where you will input your mark and LPC number for the Institute to verify your mark.

Prizes

  • Prizes are allocated solely according to the highest marks achieved.
  • Entrants are not required to attend the ceremonies to receive their prizes.
  • Vouchers are awarded to top achievers.  The vouchers may be used to attend any courses, workshops, or webinars offered at the Gawie le Roux Institute of Law.  We offer Practical Vocational Training, Attorneys' exam training, Practical training for attorneys, and Paralegal training.
  • The vouchers are valid for two years and may not be exchanged for cash or transferred to another person.
