Amy Du Toit passed the LPC's conveyancing exam and was admitted as a Conveyancer of the High Court of South Africa on 22 August 2025.
Background
"I obtained my BA in Law and LLB degrees from North-West University, Potchefstroom, between 2016 and 2020. I commenced my articles in 2021, during which I came to the realisation that practising in litigation was not aligned with my professional interests. As a result, I ceded my articles to a conveyancing firm, where I continued my practical training under the guidance of experienced attorneys, notaries, and conveyancers.
It was during this time that I developed a strong passion for conveyancing and recognised the need to prepare for the conveyancing examinations in order to practise as a conveyancer."
On enrolling at the Gawie le Roux Institute of Law
"It has become common knowledge amongst attorneys and conveyancers in practice that the Gawie le Roux study materials and courses are regarded as the definitive resource for conveyancing, particularly from a practical perspective relating to the drafting paper. As such, I decided to enrol in the Conveyancing exam workshop to equip myself with the necessary tools and knowledge to successfully prepare for this notoriously challenging examination.
"After writing the conveyancing exam the first time, I realised I had significantly underestimated the exam’s extensive scope and voluminous nature. I bravely attempted again and failed...again, luckily obtained an oral, however, I realised there was just something I was missing."
"Whilst I was preparing to write again in April 2025, I knew I had to step up my game to finally get over the line; I was more determined than ever to conquer both exams once and for all. I had the practical experience, and I had the theoretical knowledge; now it was a matter of mastering the finer details, as this level of understanding is essential to successfully pass the conveyancing exams.
I decided to enrol for the Conveyancing exam workshop and chose the recordings option. I thoroughly enjoyed the recordings as I was able to pause and rewind when needed, and there are two plays for every video. The workshop covered 87 past exam questions, which included a mixture of drafting and theory questions.
On the drafting side, it covered questions from every chapter in Gawie's notes, and I was able to practice my drafting skills by reading the question, trying it for myself, and then pressing play on the recording and going through the answer. That was the best way for me to learn, and you only realise your pitfalls if you physically write it out on paper. There were many tips and tricks that Erinda also shared during the workshop, which really helped immensely, and I would not have gained that knowledge if I had not done the workshop. Whilst practicing the drafting, I was also making notes of what I need to cover for the theory paper."
"All in all, the workshop was great for not only preparing me, but giving me the confidence to go headstrong into the exam."
Amy's study tips for the conveyancing exam
- "Start early and commit fully.
- Establish your distractions and intentionally do something about them. Put away distractions for three months straight (no social media or series after work). Delete social media if this helps you focus, and put your phone in a different room.
- Make notes and put them on your wall to see. While I was writing the exam, I could remember a mental picture of the notes I had on my wall which I had looked at every day.
- Practice until your pen's ink runs out – memorise the Power of Attorney format and practice all different scenarios.
- Most importantly – enrol in a Gawie le Roux course as the structure helps get your mind right.
If you commit hard enough and don’t quit, you will surely pass!

"Nothing worth having or achieving is easy. If you really want it that badly, you will do what it takes. My best advice is to get your mental focus in place and invest in Gawie le Roux Institute of Law's Course in conveyancing / workshop / notes and an Allen West textbook."
