About Ashley
"I am an Associate Attorney and admitted Conveyancer at STBB Helderberg, where I also completed my articles. I am a proud alumna of Stellenbosch University, where I completed both my LLB and LLM."
On enrolling at the Gawie le Roux Institute of Law
"I initially received my preparatory materials in late 2024 with the intention to write in April 2025, but life has a way of shifting your plans. After deciding to delay my exams, I dove back into the video content in June. I spent the next two months summarising the coursework and working on the practical examples and model answers.
The video content was an absolute game-changer. Erinda's ability to bridge the gap between the legal position and the specific expectations of the examiners was superb. If I could give one piece of advice to future students, it would be to follow the 5-month structured course. I prepared in three months, which was quite intense; the five-month timeline breaks the 'conveyancing elephant' into manageable, bite-sized pieces and offers far more opportunities to practice."
Ashley's conveyancing exam tips
- "Master the details: In conveyancing, attention to detail is everything. This is not a subject you can cram at the last minute. You need weeks of consistent study to truly grasp the nuances.
- Use the right tools: All things are possible when you have the right resources. The way the drafting expectations and complex concepts are explained in the video content is so creative that it leaves you feeling empowered rather than overwhelmed. I will always think of CRTs as little rat babies, and extending clauses’ metaphors I still use in my everyday work.
- Draft, practice, repeat: Consistency is key. Even when balancing multiple qualifications and work, I made it a priority to practice my drafting every morning when my mind was fresh."
On facing challenges
"Preparation is not always a smooth path. I successfully navigated my conveyancing studies while simultaneously juggling a full-time qualification and part-time work. By prioritising my most difficult tasks – i.e. practicing drafting under time constraints – early in the day and maintaining a 'practice-first' mindset, I was able to approach the exam with confidence and resolve."
What's next?
"I am always looking to further diversify my legal toolkit. My next goals include obtaining a certification in mediation and completing a practical course on the administration of deceased estates."
