Carla van Aswegen passed both papers of the conveyancing exam during the first session in 2025.
About Carla
"I am currently a practising attorney. At the beginning of 2025, I opened a branch of Ria Pieterse Attorneys Incorporated in Sandton."
Background
"I graduated from North-West University in 2019. After successfully completing my articles and passing the competency-based examinations, I was admitted as an attorney in 2022."
On enrolling at the Gawie le Roux Institute of Law
"I had often heard that the most effective way to pass the conveyancing exam is by completing Gawie le Roux's conveyancing course. This consistent recommendation strongly motivated me to enrol.
The lecture recordings from the Course in conveyancing allowed me to study at my own pace and according to my schedule. Even without attending live sessions, I was able to understand complex concepts and gain invaluable knowledge. In addition, I attended the Conveyancing exam workshop shortly before the exam. I would highly recommend it, as it provided insight into how to approach and answer exam questions, reinforced key concepts, and helped identify areas for improvement ahead of the exam."
Carla's study tips for the conveyancing exam
"Practice as many drafting questions as possible under timed conditions. Invest time in truly understanding complex concepts, rather than memorising them parrot fashion."
"Whenever you feel overwhelmed, remind yourself of your why, then eat the elephant one bite at a time. If you don’t pass on your first attempt, don’t let it discourage you. Instead, treat it as a learning experience to refine your preparation strategy and approach to answering the question paper."
What's next?
"I plan to establish a conveyancing department within our firm and to continue growing and evolving as a legal professional."
