"I began my LLB studies through UNISA while working full-time outside the legal sector. In 2019, I took an academic break to welcome the birth of my first child and had to extend it due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Once my child started school and circumstances improved, I returned to my studies with renewed determination and successfully completed my degree while balancing work and family life.
I am currently seeking and hope to secure articles."

400-hour vs 150-hour PVT programme of structured course work
"I decided to enrol in the 400-hour programme after completing my final LLB subjects in June 2025, as I was keen to continue developing my legal knowledge while actively seeking articles. My primary motivation in joining the programme was to acquire practical, skills-based training and to bridge the gap between academic study and professional legal practice.
Upon completion, the programme allows me to sit for the competency-based examination for admission as an attorney in March 2026, even if I have not yet secured articles. This approach allows me to dedicate my full attention to learning during the articles period, should I obtain them after successfully completing the competency-based examinations.
A further benefit of the 400-hour programme is the potential reduction of the articles period to one year, thereby accelerating my path to admission as an attorney."
On facing challenges
"During the programme, I encountered several personal and professional challenges while balancing multiple responsibilities. I was employed on a full-time basis, a mother to a five-year-old child, and someone deeply committed to my family. Managing my professional obligations, parental responsibilities, and the academic demands of the programme required a high degree of discipline, organisation, and effective time management.
In addition to these responsibilities, my family experienced a particularly challenging period, which placed considerable emotional strain on me during an already rigorous academic undertaking.
I addressed these challenges by maintaining clear priorities, remaining organised, and drawing on a strong support system. Through this approach, I was able to persevere, and the experience ultimately reinforced my resilience and determination to complete the programme successfully."

What's next?
"I am enrolled for the Attorneys' admission exam courses, particularly Paper 1 & Paper 3, as my goal is to partake in the March 2026 examinations."
