A career in law offered a way to understand the world
“I was intrigued by the complexities of human interaction and society's rules. Law offered a way to understand how our world operates and resolve conflicts. Initially, I thought working for the UN would allow me to influence these systems globally, but I discovered a passion for technology law. It’s not just about grand changes but shaping the evolving technology landscape, where law must keep pace with innovation, ensuring our frameworks remain robust and adaptable.”
Supporting businesses with the evolution of technology
“My interest in IT and its global relevance led me to focus on cyber law during my LLM in Public International Law. As a candidate attorney at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr Inc, I gained valuable experience in the Technology, Media, and Telecommunications department, where I discovered my passion for this dynamic field. A Cyber Law course at the University of the Witwatersrand further solidified my commitment. I find it rewarding to support businesses with the evolution of technology and assist technical teams in innovating new solutions.”
Helping clients use AI transparently and responsibly
“Artificial Intelligence has long existed, but renewed interest stems from the accessibility of generative AI like ChatGPT and Co-Pilot. This technology benefits industries like healthcare, agriculture, and law, but raises ethical concerns, including cybercrime, IP infringement, data breaches, bias, and hallucinations. My interest is helping clients use AI transparently, responsibly, and in compliance with regulations. As AI spreads globally, monitoring legal frameworks across jurisdictions is crucial, with the EU's regulations likely influencing global standards through the Brussels Effect.”
