He is also an admitted and practising Notary and Conveyancer. He was employed by the Department of Constitutional Development, first as prosecutor and later as acting presiding officer. He was appointed as lecturer at the Pretoria Technikon in 1981. He also lectured in Intellectual Property at the University of Pretoria and became a full-time senior lecturer in the Department of Mercantile Law in 1988. He was promoted to associate professor in 1991 and to professor in 1994. He became a member of the Department of Private Law in 2009.
