Prof. Klopper has been a part-time practitioner specialising in third-party claims and intellectual property since 1982 and has practical experience in dealing with road crash-related personal injury claims. He is also an admitted and practising Notary and Conveyancer. He was employed by the Department of Constitutional Development, first as prosecutor and later as acting presiding officer while completing his LLB study part-time. He served his articles with the State Attorney, Bloemfontein. He was appointed as lecturer at the Pretoria Technikon in 1981. He also lectured in Intellectual Property at the University of Pretoria and became a full-time senior lecturer in the Department of Mercantile Law in 1988 where he was responsible for the subject “Third Party Compensation”. He was promoted to associate professor in 1991 and to professor in 1994. He became a member of the Department of Private Law in 2009 and retired in 2011. He is the author of The Law of Third Party Compensation (currently in its 5th edition, Practitioner’s Guide to the RAF (a loose-leaf publication updated each semester), Law of Damages (2017) and the originator of LexisNexis Quantum of Damages: Non-Patrimonial Loss. He has published widely and more recently in De Rebus on matters concerning third-party claims.
